I Don't Trust Nobody

I macneal used to let everybody in

Gave my time like it didn’t mean nothin

Smiles was fake, love felt thin

Learned too late who was really frontin

I trusted words more than actions

That lesson cut me deep

Everybody say they real

Till it’s time to actually be

I seen secrets turn to stories

I seen loyalty get sold

I don’t hate nobody for it

I just move different now, I’m grown

I’m not bitter

I’m just aware

I don’t need a crowd

I just need what’s fair

I don’t trust nobody

And I’m okay with that

I been too open before

I ain’t goin back

I’m not gettin no new friends

I’m protectin my peace

Everybody don’t deserve

The real parts of me

I keep my circle small

I keep my doors closed

If you wasn’t there when it mattered

You don’t gotta know me no more

I watched people switch on me

Soon as life got real

They loved the version of me

That didn’t know how to say “no” or “chill”

I was there when they was hurtin

But they vanished when I broke

So I learned silence over talk

And distance over hope

I don’t explain myself no more

I don’t over-share my plans

What God got for me is personal

I don’t need nobody’s hands

I still love, I still care

I just don’t overextend

Trust is earned, not automatic

That’s how this goin end

I don’t trust nobody

Not like I used to do

I give respect, keep it solid

But I’m movin careful too

I’m not gettin no new friends

I’m cool with my few

If you don’t bring peace to my life

I got nothin for you

I been burned by the closest ones

That’ll teach you how to move

Now I pray before I speak

And I watch what I let through

Lonely sometimes, yeah I admit

But fake love hurt worse

I’d rather sit with my peace

Than be surrounded by hurt

So if I’m distant, don’t take it wrong

I’m just protectin my heart

I don’t trust nobody like before

But I finally trust myself… and that’s a start
